Hey all,
It’s Tuesday again and with it comes one of our favourite memes created by Jana over at her awesome blog That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is: The Last Ten Books That Gave Me a Book Hangover.
For this, I’ve decided to choose the last ten sci-fi / paranormal/ fantasy books that gave me a hangover as the February ‘Month of Love’ theme has meant I’ve been neglecting some of my other favourite genres!
Here they are:

So my hangover status after these book is partly due to my love of the authors’ writing styles and epic world building but ALSO about my love for specific characters that just made my heart melt and will be added to my Book Boyfriends and Kick-Ass Females list!
I adored Finn and Ian from Aurora Rising and Shades of Wicked, respectively. They’re both snarky, arrogant and completely loyal to those they genuinely care about. As for Hexes and O’s I really enjoyed reading about Remington. She’s opinionated, considerate and hilariously funny!

The same reasoning goes for these books too. The Savior FINALLY featured Murhder’s story which I had been waiting YEARS for. I have to admit that the wait was worth it! Mercy Thompson will forever be one of my fav heroines. She’s sure of herself, incredibly kind and open minded. I enjoyed reading Silver Borne with it’s usual Mercy Thompson action-packed pace and great side characters.

What can I say about these? I feel like they’re self-explanatory. While I didn’t connect with many of the characters in Scythe this book made the list due to its theme and Shusterman’s way of creating a whole new world that borders on being so dark and yet strangely realistic. I loved the rep of AI characters in these two books including the Thunderhead and AIDAN. They stole my heart and I’ll never want it back!

These three authors will forever be in my list of must-read and auto-buy. Pratchett’s Discworld series blew me away the first time I read it but throughout the extensive selection of characters Reaper Man AKA Death was my fav! In Maas’ Kingdom of Ash there were so many characters that were added to my list but my fav of the lot had to be Manon Blackbeak – she was stubborn, loyal and insanely kick-ass. Honestly, she’s my favourite female heroine EVER and makes this series one of my go-to’s.
To Be Taught if Fortunate was such a surprising read. I don’t often cry in books but the ending of this had me tearing up and so heartsore. It was brilliant and epic and every other amazing adjective rolled in to one.

I’ve been meaning to read “Scythe” for a while. I’ve always liked Neal’s books.

Thank you!
My favorite from him is the Unwind series. Lev and Risa are two of my favorite characters of all time. But his Everlost series is also very good as well.

Yeah, the Illuminae Files all had the same impact for me. I thought putting them all on here might be a bit OTT though, haha. Happy Reading Mogsy! š

Scythe and The Illuminae series have been on my TBR for years now. hehe. I really need to read them soon. But I think I’ll be reading To be taught, if fortunate first. I also learned about this book in one of your posts. I just don’t remember the title of the post. š š

Oh to be taught if fortunate was a truly exceptional book. So much to unpack in it which is astounding considering its brevity. Great ttt :))))

I can’t believe I still haven’t read Kingdom of Ash yet… My level of procrastination when it comes to finishing that series is crazy! šIlluminae made it onto my list as well and I was really not expecting to become so emotionally attached to all the characters. It was so good! Can’t wait for more Aurora Cycle too š Great list, Jen!

Woah… you haven’t read the last book? It wasn’t epic but it did round out the series nicely. It was so sentimental… the last of all the characters and I was in a weirdly sentimental vibe for DAYS afterwards! You’re so lucky you can read it for the first time still. Illuminae had me reeling at the end. They certainly kept me entertained throughout the 600+ pages, haha. I def want more Aurora Cycle (mainly Fin) though! Thanks Dini š

No I haven’t. I even pre-ordered it š but I decided that I think I want to re-read the last few books before finishing it. I really need to refresh my memory now! I also kinda don’t want this series to end? Haha I got so many feels with this series!

Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman are so good at giving book hangovers!

They really are… the combo is quite addictive! Which I find odd as their solo writing doesn’t have anywhere near the same impact for me. They just need to only and forever write together š

Ah, is as so strongly intending to get to Illuminae and that Patricia Briggs series last year. Glad to hear that they were book hangover-worthy and that the Mercy Thompson series is enduring.

Oh, great topic. I think one of the biggest book hangovers I got was from The Ghost Bride by Yangzse Choo, I love that book so much. Also recently, The Unbound Empire by Melissa Caruso!
