Hi all!
Welcome to another First Lines Fridays! I’m excited to share my chosen book with you this week – I think some of you should be able to guess it. This is a weekly meme for book lovers to judge a book by its opening lines rather than by its cover, its author or its prestige. I saw this on Mani’s Book Corner but was originally hosted by Wandering Words.
Rules:
- Choose a book from your shelves/ current read.
- Open the book to the first page.
- Copy the first line on the page, making sure you don’t give away the book title.
- Reveal the book.

First Lines:
There is blood under my fingernails. I wonder how many of my people I’ve killed this time.
I thrust my hands in to the barrel beside the stables. The ice-cold water bites at my skin but the blood clings.
I shouldn’t bother, because it should all be gone in an hour anyway, but I hate this. The blood. The not knowing.
Do you recognise which book these bloody, guilt-ridden words come from?

This week’s book is: A Curse so Dark and Lonely

Fall in love, break the curse. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year, Prince Rhen, the heir of Emberfall, thought he could be saved easily if a girl fell for him. But that was before he turned into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. Before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, Harper learned to be tough enough to survive. When she tries to save a stranger on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s pulled into a magical world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom. Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. A prince? A curse? A monster? As she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.
Almost picked this up at the library, it’s on my TBR next time I’m in the mood for a Beauty & The Beast-type fairytale retelling. 😀 Its first lines sound good.

The cover is so eye-catching isn’t it?? It caught my eye in the library and despite it being a B&TB re-telling I thought I’d give it a go. I hope you enjoy it if/when you get to reading it 😀 My reviews should be up sometime this month for it.

Oh I’m sorry! I’ve read some really mixed reviews on it. I have to admit, it was mainly the cover that drew my first attention to it ❤ Hopefully it's not too bad when I get around to reading it 😛

This post is so clever! I’ve never seen it before. I like the guessing game.
But sadly, I didn’t get it right. The book sounds good though!

It’s quite fun isn’t it? It’s introduced me to quite a few new books by trying to guess other people’s choices for the week. I’m glad you liked it 🙂 It’s a great way to meet a new book!
